At-a-Glance

Two adults, relaxed pace lovers who want beaches, culture, and snorkelling without a punishing schedule — vegetarian diet fully catered for in Bali.

Getting there — target flights

WhoRouteReturn target
Both adultsMumbai (BOM) → Denpasar Ngurah Rai (DPS) — IndiGo / Air Asia / Vistara (often via KL or Singapore)Return target: $380–$520 pp (book 8–12 weeks out for Apr/May; 12–16 weeks for Jul/Aug)

Direct BOM–DPS does not currently operate; a single short stopover in Kuala Lumpur (AK) or Singapore (SQ codeshare) is typical — look for under 2 hr layover to keep total travel under 8 hrs.

Getting around

Private driver (day hires) + scooter rental in Ubud
Hire a trusted private driver (Gojek/WhatsApp-sourced or hotel-recommended) for airport transfers and inter-base moves — full day ~$45–$65 USD
Scooter rental in Ubud: ~$5–$7/day; ideal for rice terrace morning rides before tourist crowds arrive
Grab app works well in Seminyak/Canggu for short hops; metered Blue Bird taxis at airport
Do NOT rent a car — left-hand drive roads, narrow lanes, and lack of signage make self-drive genuinely stressful for first-timers
Indonesian traffic law requires an International Driving Permit for scooters; Indian licence alone is technically insufficient — weigh risk vs convenience and consider guided cycling tours as an alternative in Ubud.

Final Bali sunset with Mount Agung at your back.
Day 13
departure
Amed → DPS AirportAmed → Ngurah Rai: ~2.5–3 hrs — pre-book private driver ($65–$80). Depart guesthouse by midday for evening/night flight.Last morning snorkel or quiet beach time. Pick up Kopi Bali and sea-salt chocolate at airport shops. Board feeling genuinely rested — this trip was designed so you never felt rushed.
The Ubud → Amed move via Lempuyang is one of Bali's great road-trip moments — by routing through the Gates of Heaven at dawn you get a once-in-a-trip photograph AND break up the drive naturally. Do not skip it.

Worth knowing

Skip Kuta entirely — it is noisy, heavily touristed, and adds nothing for this style of trip. Avoid travelling during Nyepi (Balinese New Year / Day of Silence, usually March): the airport closes for 24 hours and all activity is banned — check the Nyepi date for your year before booking. November–January is rainy season: daily downpours can disrupt snorkelling and terrace walks.

ALL-IN TOTAL $2,250 $3,3852 adults, 13 nights — Lean total comes in well under $3,000; Comfort approaches or slightly exceeds your ceiling
Good news: your $3,000 budget is achievable — but flights are the biggest lever. On the Lean plan you land at approximately $2,250, giving you $750 of breathing room for upgrades, a villa splurge in Ubud, or a diving lesson. The single biggest risk to budget is flight cost: if you are booking within 6 weeks of travel or during school holidays (Indian summer break May–June, or peak Jul–Aug), BOM–DPS fares can spike to $650–$750 pp return, which pushes total spend to $3,500+. Solution: set a Google Flights price alert NOW and book the moment fares hit $400–$450 pp. The Comfort plan at $3,385 slightly exceeds your stated ceiling — the honest trade-off is a nicer villa in Ubud (worth it) vs keeping food and activities on the lean side.
Vegetarian budget advantage: Bali is one of Asia's best-value vegetarian destinations. Hindu Bali has a deep culture of temple offerings and plant-based cooking — you will never struggle to eat well. A full vegetarian meal at a warung costs $2–$4. Dedicated vegetarian restaurants in Ubud (Warung Sopa, Clear Café, Kafe) serve creative, generous meals for $6–$10. You will not feel deprived and you will spend less on food than a meat-eating couple would.
