India Festivals Calendar 2026 — When to Visit for Major Festivals
Plan your India visit around the most spectacular festivals. Holi, Diwali, Dussehra, Ganesh Chaturthi, Kumbh Mela and more.
Holi — Festival of Colours (March 2026)
The most photogenic festival in the world. Powder colours, water balloons, and music in every street. Best experienced in Mathura and Vrindavan (the spiritual home), or Jaipur for a more organised but still exuberant celebration.
Dussehra (October 2026)
The victory of good over evil. Mysore's Dasara is the most spectacular — elephant processions, palace illumination, cultural performances. Delhi's Ramlila Ground holds some of the largest Ravana effigies burned in the country.
Diwali — Festival of Lights (October/November 2026)
India ablaze with diyas (oil lamps), fireworks, and family celebrations. Varanasi's Diwali on the Ganges ghats is extraordinary. Jaipur's illuminated old city is beautiful. December holiday season brings Christmas celebrations in Goa, Kolkata, and Kerala.
